Government says the two sides are close to a joint declaration

Government Spokesman Christos Stylianides said that the Greek Cypriot side and the Turkish Cypriot side are very close to concluding a joint declaration that will pave the way for a new round of talks on the Cyprus problem.

Stylianides added that President Nicos Anastasiades will brief the leaders of the political parties on Thursday morning and in the afternoon he will travel to Athens to hold consultations with the Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos.

“We are very close to a final text” Stylianides said, adding that the consultations underway are “very sensitive”.
