The construction of the LNG terminal at Vasilikos area is the best option for Cyprus, according to the preliminary conclusions of the second interim report by Masachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Cyprus Institute (CyI).
A two-day workshop began Friday in Nicosia, titled “Maximizing the long-term value of natural gas for Cyprus”, during which the participants will discuss and exchange views on the report. The participants include notable professors from MIT, the CyI, the University of Cyprus, the Nicosia University, the University of Athens, the German Marshall Fund of the US and the PRIO Institute. Chairman of the Cyprus Hydrocarbon Company Charles Ellinas will be addressing the workshop on Saturday among other speakers.
Addressing the opening session of the workshop Friday, Cyprus Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis reiterated the government’s plans regarding the LNG Plant to be constructed at Vasilikos. He noted that the government will carry out all the necessary steps for the construction of the LNG Plant and has already signed Memoranda of Understanding for reaching a Project Agreement with Noble Energy, Delek, Avner and Total.
