East Mediterranean could and should play a more active role in the energy sector of the European Union and be a new independent route for the supply of natural gas, Minister of Energy Giorgos Lakkotrypis has said.
He make the remarks in an address about the eastern Mediterranean and the energy security of the EU.
The conference was under the auspices of the European Economic and Social Committee and the main organizer was the Greek Energy Forum.
Lakkotrypis stressed the good relations Cyprus maintains with its neighboring countries in the area of East Mediterranean and expressed optimism for their further enhancement.
