Cyprus and Lebanon have expressed their common belief that the discovery of hydrocarbon reserves in the Eastern Mediterranean can and should work as a tool for peace, stability and cooperation in the region.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulides and his Lebanese counterpart Gebran Bassil held a meeting Wednesday in Nicosia, during which they agreed to strengthen their relations in the energy sector as well as in areas such as search and rescue, liberalisation of flights, promotion of tourism and cooperation in the field of defence.
In statements after the meeting, Kasoulides said he informed his Lebanese counterpart about the recent illegal activities of Turkey in Cyprus` Exclusive Economic Zone noting that such unilateral actions undermine further the prospects of stability in the region.
