It has been confirmed by the House of Representatives that a deal has been ratified between the Government of Cyprus and Israel for the exchange and non-disclosure of confidential information, in keeping with an agreement signed in Nicosia on April 28, 2014.
Cyprus and Israel have been in negotiations since mid-2011 regarding the development of a joint framework pertaining to the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbon deposits, which traverse the dividing line of the two countries’ exclusive economic zones (EEZ).
The agreement is hoped to ensure the exchange and protection of confidential information between the Cypriot and Israeli governments, with the aim of aiding each side to adequately address the scope – and therefore options for development – of the areas in question: block 12 of Cyprus’ EEZ, and the ‘Isai’ section of Israel’s EEZ.
